I’m Liv Carman, a software developer working in Niagara Falls, NY. I started out doing web dev with PHP and jQuery, then did web dev with Python for a few years, and now spend my free time alternating between “modern” JavaScript (Node.js, React, & friends) and experimenting with Rust. I tried to make Haskell happen, but it’s the “fetch” of programming languages.

The last time I looked at my Google Ads Personalization settings, Google had me down as a 35-40 year old man. All of my supposed interests were very stereotypical suburban dad things like personal finance, sports, and bicycles. One of them was simply “meats”. On the one hand, this is hilariously inaccurate since I’m a woman in my late 20s. On the other hand… where is the lie?

When I’m not writing code, I’m playing guitar (extremely badly) and following the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. Although I’ve never smashed a folding table, I was so exited when the Bills ended their playoff drought that I reenacted Kyle Williams’ touchdown celebration in my living room. Like most things involving the Bills, it ended badly.

I listen to a lot of old school indie/college rock: Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Sleater-Kinney, et. al. That being said, my favorite band is probably the Tragically Hip. Again, it’s that suburban dad thing I’ve got going on.
